HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 Ink Replacement Guide
- Make sure that the printer is turned on. Then, open the ink cartridge access door.
- The ink cartridge's carriage will automatically move, so make sure to wait for it to stop before you proceed.
- Push the ink cartridge that needs to be replaced inward to release it, then pull it out from the printer.
- Get your new CompAndSave's HP 8740 ink cartridge. Open it over a sink or garbage can to avoid any mess in case it leaks, as sometimes, factories tend to overfill the ink cartridges. Make sure to touch the black plastic part only, then remove the covering tape that is usually bright in color, as well as the plastic protective case, if there is, before installing it.
- Insert the HP OfficeJet 8740 ink cartridge into its respective slot, then gently push it in until you hear a click indicating that it is locked in place.
- Close the ink cartridge access door, then try to print a test page.

Are HP 951xl and 952xl interchangeable?
The short answer is no, HP 951XL and HP 952XL have different size, fittings, and printer compatibility. Installing an HP 951XL ink cartridge into a printer that uses HP 952XL will not be recognized by the printer and might cause some printing damage. So, to avoid this, make sure to only install the ink cartridge intended for your printer.
How do I make my HP printer not use HP ink?
Remanufactured or replacement ink cartridges usually work instantly without doing any configuration. But in case your printer doesn't accept them, you may try to disable the 'HP Cartridge Protection' by accessing the 'HP printer software,' then go to 'Settings.' Look for 'HP Cartridge Protection' and then 'Disable' it. If this procedure doesn't work, you may also try to downgrade the firmware of your printer. Do you need both black and color cartridges to print HP?
It depends, as some HP printer models are designed to print only if all ink cartridges have ink, while some printer models can print even if the color ink cartridge is empty. To print with only black ink, you just have to open the printer software app and then go to the 'Print option.' Then, choose your printer, followed by selecting the 'Printer Properties' tab. After this, select 'Paper/Quality' or 'Features,' then press the 'Advanced' option. You should see the option that says 'Print in grayscale.' Press this option, then select 'Black Ink Only.' Lastly, press 'OK' to apply the changes.
Please note that this depends on the printer model, as some models require all cartridges in order to print. To verify, you may contact your printer manufacturer and check if your printer has this feature.
