HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Ink Replacement Guide
- Make sure that the printer is turned on and load a stack of plain white paper on the paper tray.
- Locate and open the ink cartridge access door which can be found in front of the printer.
- The ink cartridge's carriage will automatically move so make sure to wait for it to completely stop moving before you proceed.
- To release the ink cartridge, just gently push it then pull the ink cartridge from the slot.
- Get your new CompAndSave HP 7740 ink cartridge. Open it over a sink or garbage can to avoid any mess in case it leaks as sometimes, factories tend to overfill the ink cartridges. Make sure to touch the black plastic part only, then remove the covering tape that is usually bright in color as well as the plastic protective case, if there is, before installing it.
- Insert the new HP OfficeJet 7740 ink cartridge into its respective slot. You should hear a snap indicating that it is locked in place.
- Gently close the ink cartridge access door.

- Can I use generic ink in HP printer?

- Are HP 951 and 952 ink cartridges the same?
- No, they are not the same and interchangeable. HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 can only use the standard yield HP 952 and high yield HP 952XL ink cartridges. Printers that use HP 952/952XL cannot use HP 951/951XL and vice versa. The printer will not recognize it and might cause some printing issues. So make sure to only install the intended ink cartridge for your printer.
- Is it worth buying HP XL ink cartridges?
- Totally! They work the same as the standard HP inks but can print more pages. With that being said, you don't have to purchase and install a new ink as often as you do if you are using the standard ink. You can also save money from purchasing an XL ink cartridge as the cost of printing per page is definitely way less than the cost per page when using a standard ink. All in all, buying an HP XL ink cartridge is definitely worth it.
