- Press the button to open the printer door, then remove the toner cartridge.
- Get your new CompAndSave HP LaserJet Pro MFP M428m printer toner cartridge. Open it over a sink or garbage can to avoid any mess in case it leaks, as sometimes, factories tend to overfill the toner cartridges. Make sure to touch the black plastic part only, then remove the covering tape that is usually bright in color and the plastic protective case, if there is, before installing it.
- Hold both sides of the toner cartridge and gently rock it to distribute the toner.
- Align the toner cartridge with the tracks inside the product, then insert the HP toner M428m cartridge until it is firmly seated.
- Close the front door.

The ink supply status will no longer function. I printed a test page. With the original cartridge a set of screened blocks were very smoothly rendered. With the replacement cartridge the blocks were slightly darker, and showed some irregularity/banding. A cross hatched line surrounded by a box composed of alternating screened and solid lines was clearly discernible with the original cartridge. With the replacement cartridge the screened portion of the box was almost entirely filled in. There were also couple blotchy areas in the solid lines. I showed the test pages to my wife; her comment was "Good enough". I'm not sure I can fully recommend this thing, but it sure is cheaper than a genuine cartridge.
