- Turn off the printer and open the toner access door by lifting the printer's top cover.
- Carefully remove the toner cartridge that needs to be replaced out of the printer.
- Get your new CompAndSave HP Pro MFP 3101sdw toner cartridge. Open the cartridge over a sink or garbage can to avoid any messes in case of a powder leak, as sometimes, factories tend to overfill toner cartridges. Gently shake the toner cartridge about 4 to 5 times and avoid touching the bottom part of the toner, then remove the covering tape that is usually bright in color and the plastic protective case, if there is, before installing it.
- Carefully align and insert the new toner cartridge into the slot until it is firmly seated in place.

Do laser toners dry out?
Toner cartridges are powder-based and not liquid-based. This means that they do not dry out as the powder inside is already dry. But if a toner cartridge has not been used for a long time, there's a possibility that the toner powder is not evenly distributed inside. This can cause uneven prints and smudges. Does using compatible toner void warranty?
