Yes, you can use normal printer ink on inkjet heat transfer paper. Original or compatible inks will be okay to use. Pigment-based inks have a slight advantage over dye-based inks with its ability to last longer. There is also no need to customize an inkjet printer in order to handle heat-transfer paper.
Keep in mind that an inkjet heat transfer paper is only compatible to inkjet printers and laser heat transfer paper is only compatible to laser printers. To use an inkjet heat transfer paper in a laser printer can result to paper burning as the paper is not designed to withstand laser heat. Using laser heat transfer paper in an inkjet printer can result to poor print quality as the paper is not designed to hold ink.
For the transfer process to have the best quality print, one will need ensure the quality of the transfer paper and follow its instructions.
