Canon MG5500 Ink Cartridges Replacement Guide
- Turn the printer on.
- Lower the front cover to open.
- Open the control panel and the paper output tray to gain access to the ink cartridges.
- The ink cartridge carrier will move and settle for cartridge replacement position. Do not move or stop the print holder by touching it or forcing it to move. Allow it to settle without interruption.
- You will know which cartridge needs to be replaced as it will have a fast flashing light.
- To remove the ink tank, press the tab and lift it up.
- If you are replacing multiple cartridges, do it one at a time. Do not remove multiple cartridges from the holder.
- Get your new CompAndSave's Canon 5500 printer ink cartridge. Open it over a sink or garbage can to avoid any mess in case it leaks as sometimes, factories tend to overfill ink cartridges. Remove the covering tape that is usually bright in color as well as the plastic protective case, if there is, before installing it. Make sure that you only touch the black plastic part.
- Insert the new Canon PIXMA MG5500 ink cartridge at a slight angle into the print head, head first. Insert the cartridge completely until it clicks into place.
- Close the control panel. Should a message appear on the screen click OK.
- Close the front cover.

Canon PIXMA MG5500 printer can use the Canon PGI-250XL for pigment black and Canon CLI-251XL for black, gray, cyan, magenta and yellow ink cartridges. How do I get my Canon printer to recognize my refilled cartridge?
You can fix this issue by disconnecting the power cord and other cables on your printer, then plug it back in, turn it on, and reload the cartridges after 15 minutes. While the cartridge is out of the printer, use a non-abrasive towel to gently clean the printhead to ensure that the cartridge chip and contact pin are free of debris and install the cartridge again.
