Canon MG5420 Ink Cartridges Replacement Guide
- Open the printer cover. .
- Wait for the ink cartridge carrier to move and the cartridge holder settles in the middle.
- Remove the cartridge by pushing the front part of it out of the slot.
- Get your new CompAndSave's Canon MG5420 ink. Open it over a sink or garbage can to avoid any messes in case it leaks as sometimes, factories tend to overfill ink cartridges.
- Remove the covering tape that is usually bright in color as well as the plastic protective case, if there is, before installing it.
- Install the Canon PIXMA MG5420 ink cartridge on its appropriate slot.
- Close the Canon printer to start the ink charging process. Let this finish on it’s own to avoid wasting ink.

What ink does Canon MG5420 use?
Canon MG5420 uses PGI-250 and CLI-251 cartridges. It is also compatible with the high yield ink cartridges which are PGI-250XL and CLI-251XL. These high yield ink cartridges contain more ink and can print more pages compared to the standard version. Can I use my Canon printer with only black ink?
By default, most Canon printer models stop printing when an ink cartridge runs out. You may temporarily print with just black, but remember it is recommended to always replace any empty ink cartridges to avoid printer issues. To temporarily print with only black, stop and cancel any pending print job through the Canon printer program. Next, access Printer Settings, then go to the main tab and then select Quality Option followed by selecting Plain Papers or Envelope for the type setting. After this, put a check in Grayscale option and press OK.
Is Canon 40 ink the same as 240?
Canon PG-40 is not the same as Canon PG-240. They are, in fact, used in different Canon Printer models. Canon PG-40 ink cartridges are used in various PIXMA iP, MP, and MX series printers, whereas Canon PG-240 ink cartridges are used in the PIXMA MG series. Despite the fact that they appear to have the same build and casing, these two cartridge versions are not interchangeable.
